Important notice: All travellers must complete their PLF before entering the country, providing detailed information on their point of departure, the duration of previous stays in other countries, and the address of their stay while in Greece. What you Need to Know

Greece, over the past few weeks, has become a coronavirus success story and an example of how to deal with the problem! Now, the country it’s taking gradual steps towards a safe comeback after the COVID-19 lockdown while keeping the safety of all residents and visitors a top priority. Meteora is opening up to welcome you again and we’ve relaxed many of our measures to curb the spread of Covid-19. You can now move freely around our town streets, shop in our stores, walk around the Meteora hiking trails, visit bars and cafes, and enjoy our world-famous breathtaking site of Meteora.

Social distancing measures will continue to be practiced wherever you go so do keep in mind that this may affect capacity at some venues across the town. You may also find that some of the local experiences featured on our site may be operating with a smaller capacity or offered on a private basis with special offers and discount codes. Also, Meteora is an ideal destination for many outdoor soft adventure activities, edutainment cultural tours where you can practice social distancing. Find more about these activities here.

General safety measures around Greece

Social distancing measures and restrictions apply at open-air archaeological sites

There is a table limit of 6 people, except for families with children at cafés, coffee shops, and restaurants of kalabaka and Kastraki village.

Due to the current COVID situation, all Monasteries of Meteora will no longer be providing skirts and shawls at the entrances. Appropriate clothing for everyone is required to enter the monasteries. Sleeveless clothing and shorts over the knee for men are prohibited and you‘ll be denied access if dressed that way. For ladies skirts below the knee are also required.

The mandatory use of a face mask in public transport, taxis, buses, hospitals, elevators, and recommended when visiting public services such as supermarkets, hairdressers, and other retail spaces.

Social distancing measures are in place in supermarkets and pharmacies allowing one person per 15 square meters. Hand sanitizer pumps have been installed at shop entrances and exits for compulsory use by customers. Cash transactions are to be avoided where possible.

Churches all over Greece have re-opened for public services with reduced capacity. This applies also to the churches located inside the monasteries of Meteora.

The monastery of Ypapanti will remain closed for 2020 because of coronavirus pandemic

Moving around Meteora Greece
Under current measures, people are free to travel within the mainland of Greece and the islands of Evia and Crete.

All public means of transport (Bus, Rail and regional buses) are in operation at present.

Meteora Public bus during COVID-19:

There will be no public bus services from Kalabaka and Kastraki to Meteora Monasteries.

Meteora Referral Hospital for COVID-19 patients:

The following hospitals have been assigned to accept and deal with possible COVID-19 cases: The University Hospital of Larissa, an hour drive from Meteora

Stay Safe in Meteora:

In accordance with the safety and precautionary guidelines issued by the WHO, we advise the following measures:

  • Remain at least one meter away from other people and avoid all crowded places where possible.
  • Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue (not your hands) when sneezing or coughing.
  • Clean and disinfect regularly touched objects and surfaces to reduce the risk of spreading germs.
  • Persons with a fever higher than 37.5° are strongly recommended to stay at home, limit all social contacts as much as possible, and to seek medical advice.
