Tour Details

See the Heart of Athens

This comprehensive city tour takes you to the modern sights in the heart of Athens and the most important ancient sights that have been standing in the city for millennia. The tour concludes at the Acropolis which is one of the most visited and culturally revered ancient sights in the world. It continues to stand higher than the metropolis built around it, offering panoramic views of the entire capital.

Modern and Ancient Highlights

Start at the Syntagma metro station for a 10-minute tour inside of the station’s museum. Archaeological artifacts uncovered during the metro’s construction offer insight into daily life here thousands of years ago. The next stop is the Greek Parliament, followed by the Monument to the Unknown Soldier where you will watch the Changing of the Guards.

The walk continues to the National Gardens of Athens, Zappeion, Temple of Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch. The route passes by the Plaka district to reach the next and final stop: the Acropolis.

Skip-the-Line Access

Entrance tickets are not included in the tour fee and the ticket costs will be owed to the tour guide before the tour begins. We save you time by buying entrance tickets in advance so you can skip the lines. This service is provided at no extra cost. Note that children under 18 years old have free admission to the Acropolis and all the archaeological sights.

Entering on the south slope of the Acropolis, you’ll visit the Dionysus Sanctuary and Dionysus Theater before you walk up the slope leading to the Acropolis monuments. Panoramic views of the city will be perfect for Instagram-ready photos.

During your tour, you’ll gain insight into the significance of its historic monuments including the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, the Propylaia, the Nike Temple and other significant sights including the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Ancient Agora, the National Observatory of Athens and the city’s scenic hills: Filoppapos, Mars, and Pnyx.

The tour ends at the Acropolis.

We did both a private tour and a sunset group tour, in addition Travel Meteora arranged the train tickets from Athens and the pick up from and back to the train station. The tours were informative, professional, the monasteries are impressive, the culture and tradition are rich, the views are magnificent and the landscape is spectacular.

Julie S Unforgettable and wonderful sunset tour
We absolutely loved the sunset tour with Visit Meteora. The hotel pick up was smooth, the trip very well organised and moving at a fast pace so as to include a lot of stops within the four hour tour. Our guide and the driver of the tour were very friendly and really went above and beyond to make our experience excellent and memorable. The tour guide included a lot of informative and detailed facts about the sites we visited. My highlights were seeing the monasteries from afar as well as the tour inside the Chapel which was also an ancient Greek temple. I highly recommend going with Visit Meteora, you will not regret it! vastvcGreat tour to view all monasteries and learn the history of the area! Magical experience!
The Sunset Tour is an ideal way to view all of the monasteries and learn the history of the area. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and patiently answered everyone's questions. Learning the history of the Byzantine church helped us understand the frescoes in the monastery chapels as most were very similar. We only actually went inside one monastery and the church in Kalambaka, but went to some well-known, and some out-of-the-way, viewpoints to take amazing pictures. The tour requires some hiking, but most sites were easily accessible. Highly recommend this tour to get an overview of the area to further explore desired sites at your leisure.

Meteora is more than its monasteries and sunset. The city is filled with much history (Ancient Greek, Roman, and Ottoman) and nature wonder. This tour offers you MORE THAN sunset and photography. The travel guide Vasili lives in town. He has plenty knowledge of Meteora. Whether you are just here for photo, or a history guru, enjoy the trip with Vasili. I was in Meteora in 2019 Dec and booked the tour with Vasili. I returned again in 2021 with my newly wed wife, and booked the same tour for us. Be sure your phone is charged and plenty memory space for the photos. Enjoy the trip!
