Tour Details

Explore with your professional and passionate guide the remains of the ancient city of Mycenae, a major center of Greek civilization from 1600BC to 1100BC and the archaeological treasure of Epidaurus. Follow in the footsteps of the ancient Greeks on this fascinating full day excursion.

Depart from our terminal via the coastal National highway for the strategically important Corinth canal (short stop). After the Corinth Canal, you enter the region of Argolis, land of Homer’s Golden Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating back to the second century B.C., Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization and a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece. Avoid and skip the lines of the archaeological site, home to the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon. You will see the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Royal Tombs, including Agamemnon Clytemnestra’s, and the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure.

Time will then be taken for a traditional Greek optional lunch at a nearby restaurant. Afterward, stop in the beautiful sea port of Nauplia the first capital of modern Greece with its Venetian fortress of PALAMIDI and the fortified islet of BOURTZI (short stop). Continue on to Epidaurus and visit the ancient theatre. The UNESCO’S world heritage listed monument is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asklepios, the healer and was the most celebrated healing center of the classical world. Epidaurus is probably most famous for its theatre, one of the best preserved classical Greek buildings and still used today due to its amazing acoustics. Your day trip ends back to Athens late in the afternoon.

Meteora is more than its monasteries and sunset. The city is filled with much history (Ancient Greek, Roman, and Ottoman) and nature wonder. This tour offers you MORE THAN sunset and photography. The travel guide Vasili lives in town. He has plenty knowledge of Meteora. Whether you are just here for photo, or a history guru, enjoy the trip with Vasili. I was in Meteora in 2019 Dec and booked the tour with Vasili. I returned again in 2021 with my newly wed wife, and booked the same tour for us. Be sure your phone is charged and plenty memory space for the photos. Enjoy the trip!

We did both a private tour and a sunset group tour, in addition Travel Meteora arranged the train tickets from Athens and the pick up from and back to the train station. The tours were informative, professional, the monasteries are impressive, the culture and tradition are rich, the views are magnificent and the landscape is spectacular.

Julie S Unforgettable and wonderful sunset tour
We absolutely loved the sunset tour with Visit Meteora. The hotel pick up was smooth, the trip very well organised and moving at a fast pace so as to include a lot of stops within the four hour tour. Our guide and the driver of the tour were very friendly and really went above and beyond to make our experience excellent and memorable. The tour guide included a lot of informative and detailed facts about the sites we visited. My highlights were seeing the monasteries from afar as well as the tour inside the Chapel which was also an ancient Greek temple. I highly recommend going with Visit Meteora, you will not regret it! vastvcGreat tour to view all monasteries and learn the history of the area! Magical experience!
The Sunset Tour is an ideal way to view all of the monasteries and learn the history of the area. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and patiently answered everyone's questions. Learning the history of the Byzantine church helped us understand the frescoes in the monastery chapels as most were very similar. We only actually went inside one monastery and the church in Kalambaka, but went to some well-known, and some out-of-the-way, viewpoints to take amazing pictures. The tour requires some hiking, but most sites were easily accessible. Highly recommend this tour to get an overview of the area to further explore desired sites at your leisure.
