Meteora is a place that combines a unique geological phenomenon and a monastic community. Six active monasteries exist today; all placed on top of the immense rocks of Meteora. Let us take you on an unforgettable Hiking meteora adventure that will bring you back in time to walk in the footsteps of Meteora’s monks. We will guide you on the secret trails of Meteora, the same ancient trails the monks used for centuries.

The Hiking meteora adventure includes 3 outdoor activities: Hiking tour of Meteora, Meteora Caves hike, and Hiking and Scramble tour. The tour package includes also 2-nights’ accommodation with breakfast at a fine 3-star hotel of Meteora. Optionally you may choose to add-on in your basket return train tickets to Meteora and the Meteora Sunset tour.

  • 100% refund if you cancel your reservation up to 48 hours prior to the start time of the tour​
  • Unused features are non-refundable. No shows forfeit entire payment.

Frequently Asked Questions About This Tour

All our bus tours run regardless of weather. If we are forced to cancel an activity because of extreme weather conditions, you have the option to change date or switch activity or cancel and receive a refund.

The pick-up time for all our tours is the same as the meeting time, indicated on your vouchers and our website. Please note that there may be a slight difference of 5-10 minutes between that time and the actual pick up time, depending on the number of pickups we have scheduled. Please be ready 10 minutes prior to your trip in order to facilitate that.

You can make a booking with us literally at the last minute! Just keep in mind that there may be no seats left on the tour if you do that! We recommend booking at least one week in advance, in order to have the best chances of finding availability.

We have split our tours tom morning and afternoon ones. Furthermore, all our tours visit different places at Meteora. This way, you can combine any morning tour with any afternoon tour you wish! All all-time-classic combination is the Meteora Hiking Tour in the morning and the Meteora Sunset Tour in the afternoon.

As a solo traveller visiting Meteora I decided that having a guide would be helpful to navigate all the potential trails and sites in the area. I decided to do the "Footsteps of the Monks" tour which includes 3 outdoor activities: Hiking tour of Meteora, Meteora Caves hike, and Hiking and Scramble tour. In my opinion all three were very worthwhile but my favourite was the Meteora Caves hike because you really feel like you are following the footsteps of the people who lived there generations before. If you get Chris as a guide consider yourself extremely lucky because he is candid, knowledgeable about the history and knows the area like the back of his hand! In the couple of weeks I spent in Greece, Meteora was easily a highlight and it was largely thanks to Chris that I had such an awesome experience! Thank you!!!

Darren Incredible hike of Meteora’s caves
My girlfriend and I who have minimal hiking experience did the “Hiking Meteora’s Caves” which was the highlight of our stay in Meteora. Our guide Chris, a local of Meteora, was extremely knowledgeable of the area and the history of the monasteries and hermit caves. Throughout the whole trip he explained to us the significance of what we were seeing and drew our attention old monasteries, wild herbs, and other things we would not have noticed otherwise. Although we are both novice hikers, and the hike itself is definitely challenging at times, we always felt safe and well looked after during the hike. Chris even brought us extra water and snack bars. There were amazing photo opportunities throughout the hike that we would not have been able to find by ourselves, and at the end we had climbed to the top of the rock of the Holy Spirit where the view of the area was absolutely spectacular. I highly recommend doing this hike if you visit Meteora. I highly recommend going with Visit Meteora, you will not regret it! August 2021

I did 4 tours with Visit Meteora...all of them were great...due to the covid situation and tourist numbers being down I was the only person on 3 of the tours...despite this they still run the tours which was great! 👍🏼 I did the hiking tour, sunset tour, scramble tour & mountain biking tour...the guides on all of the tours were great, arrived on time, were friendly and provided a lot of information. I’d definitely recommend booking with them!

Meteora is more than its monasteries and sunset. The city is filled with much history (Ancient Greek, Roman, and Ottoman) and nature wonder. This tour offers you MORE THAN sunset and photography. The travel guide Vasili lives in town. He has plenty knowledge of Meteora. Whether you are just here for photo, or a history guru, enjoy the trip with Vasili. I was in Meteora in 2019 Dec and booked the tour with Vasili. I returned again in 2021 with my newly wed wife, and booked the same tour for us. Be sure your phone is charged and plenty memory space for the photos. Enjoy the trip!
