By booking a train tour through Visit Meteora you are free to travel at your own pace with no tour leaders or set schedules. This tour includes 2 different price options to choose from, the economy class which includes a 3-star hotel and the executive package with a 4-star hotel. In both options, the train tickets are all issued on 2nd class seats as standard. If you wish to upgrade them to 1st class seats you may choose to add to your basket the 1st class seats upgrade add-on that will pop-up on your screen before you complete the booking! Itinerary

Day 1, Thessaloniki to Meteora and Sunset Tour

Catch the train to Kalambaka at 08:56 am from Thessaloniki Railway Station. Upon your arrival in Kalambaka, around 12:03 am, our English speaking driver will be waiting for you at the train station, holding a signboard with your name on it to transfer you to your hotel. In the evening you will join the Meteora Sunset Tour to admire breathtaking views of Meteora and to discover all the hidden gems of this place.

Day 2, Morning tour and back to Thessaloniki

Next morning, we give you the opportunity to choose the activity you prefer, the Meteora Hiking Tour or the Half-day Morning Tour. Our guide will meet you in the lobby to explore together Meteora and to discover the natural beauty and the cultural heritage of this area. Enjoy a journey back in time and learn the stories of the first hermits and monks who laid the foundations of the monastic community of Meteora. At around 18:00 pm our driver will pick you up to transfer you to the train station. At 18:22 pm the train departs and you will switch trains at Paleofarsalos, arriving at back to Thessaloniki at 22:19 pm.

No. On our train tours, you will board the train from Athens or Thessaloniki on your own, using the tickets we will send you via email. Our guide will meet you at Kalabaka train station after your train arrives at Meteora. He will be holding a signboard with your name written on it in the parking lot of Kalabaka train station.

Yes, first class seats are more comfortable and quieter. They are almost always arranged in a 6-seat-rooms, offering a higher amount of privacy and the first class coach is located next to the cafeteria, offering fast access there.

I recommend it for people who don't really like package tours due to the choices you're given. I liked having a little adventure of taking the train by ourselves to Kalambaka, where we were picked up. The sunset tour was great for my older parents and me, and I recommend brining all of your heavy photo equipment/tripods for this tour, since we stayed on the bus most of the time. I enjoyed the hiking tour and it wasn't too demanding. My parents took the half-day tour and due to some some mobility issues, they chose not to walk to one monastery, but they just stayed on the bus and felt no pressure to do something they didn't want to. Overall, it was efficient and flexible and well organized.

After arriving by train from Thessaloniki, we did the sunset tour around Meteora in the evening. It was amazing! The staff was super friendly, the ride in the company owned van was comfortable. The information provided by our guide was really interesting and they stopped at the perfect view points for photos and stunning panoramas. The sunset was especially amazing. The four hours of the tour were worth every second of the kinda long way from Thessaloniki to Kalambaka. Top recommendation for everyone who has a weakness for sunsets, tremendous scenic views, a bit of interest for local culture and history (we saw monarchys and a church from the 4th century A.C.) and doesn't want to hike up the rocks. 🙂 Excellent company

This company provides excellent service we took a package that included some tours, rail,accomodation ,transfers and meals at good restaurants. All excellent and highly professional. The staff were outstanding the drivers Satos and Yannis ensured our safe travels and both guides Catherina and Eva were knowledgeable and great to be with. This area is breathtaking a must see and all your travel arrangements are in good hands with this company. Special mention to Driver Satos who took us to our port connection, a friendly caring man who ensured we were in the right place on time and well informed.
