Journey Details: The trip will take 5 hours each way, inclusive of a 20-minute stop for refreshments and restroom use.

Departure: The bus will depart from Larissis train station in Athens at 08:00am. We request you to be present at the exit of the Larissa metro/subway station on Deligianni str, directly opposite the Athens train station, by 07:45am. Day 1, Athens to Meteora and Sunset Tour

Catch the morning bus to Kalambaka at 08:00 am from Athens 'Larissa' Railway Station, arrival at Kalambaka, around 12:45 am. Late afternoon our minibus will pick you up from your hostel to join 'Meteora Sunset Tour'. Admire breathtaking views of Meteora and discover the hidden gems of this place in one of the best tours of Mainland Greece.

Day 2, Morning tour and back to Athens

For the next morning you may choose the activity you wish: the 'Half-Day morning Tour of Meteora' to see the main attractions, the monasteries of Meteora with a VIP minibus or to join the 'Hiking Tour of Meteora'. Experience amazing sceneries and visit monuments of the Byzantine period, the monasteries of Meteora. Around 13:00, the bus will drop you back to your hostel. The bus to Athens departs from Kalambaka at 17:45 pm and arrives at Athens around 22:26 pm.

When and how will I receive my train tickets?

We will send you the train tickets via email approximately one month before your trip date.

Why should I print the train tickets?

There is an off-chance that a train inspector might give you a hard time if you present them with an electronic version of your tickets. This is why we recommend you to print them.

What time should I be at the station?

Please be at the station at least 30 minutes before the departure in order to have plenty of time to find your coach and seats. The stewards there will assist you.

Is there food provided on the train?

Yes, there is a cafeteria-coach inside every train, where you can buy snacks and refreshments.

Is it worth it booking a first class seat?

Yes, first class seats are more comfortable and quieter. They are almost always arranged in a 6-seat-rooms, offering a higher amount of privacy and the first class coach is located next to the cafeteria, offering fast access there.

The Sunset Tour is an ideal way to view all of the monasteries and learn the history of the area. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and patiently answered everyone's questions. Learning the history of the Byzantine church helped us understand the frescoes in the monastery chapels as most were very similar. We only actually went inside one monastery and the church in Kalambaka, but went to some well-known, and some out-of-the-way, viewpoints to take amazing pictures. The tour requires some hiking, but most sites were easily accessible. Highly recommend this tour to get an overview of the area to further explore desired sites at your leisure.

Meteora is more than its monasteries and sunset. The city is filled with much history (Ancient Greek, Roman, and Ottoman) and nature wonder. This tour offers you MORE THAN sunset and photography. The travel guide Vasili lives in town. He has plenty knowledge of Meteora. Whether you are just here for photo, or a history guru, enjoy the trip with Vasili. I was in Meteora in 2019 Dec and booked the tour with Vasili. I returned again in 2021 with my newly wed wife, and booked the same tour for us. Be sure your phone is charged and plenty memory space for the photos. Enjoy the trip!
